Never Enough? 3 Strategies to Shift from Scarcity to Abundance

How do you see the world? A constant struggle for resources, always competing with your co-workers and friends? Does it feel like there is never enough? If this feels true for you then you may be living from a scarcity mindset.

What would it feel like to to trust that there is enough. Enough work. Enough time. Enough money. Enough energy. Enough love. How can you make the switch from lack and worry to abundance and trust?

Abundance vs Scarcity

What comes to mind when you hear the word abundance? Do you think first of financial abundance? Of having the means to travel, buy a big house and a closet full of clothes? Yes, this can be abundance, but such a tiny piece of it.

As the motivational speaker Wayne Dyer once said, “Abundance is not something we acquire, it’s something we tune into.”

Do you consider abundance the material possessions? If so, then you are viewing it as something you acquire. When we do this it’s easier to slip into the scarcity mindset. Of feeling like what you have is never enough.

But abundance is so much more than the material things. It’s the way that you view the world. When you live in an abundance mindset you are able to see all that is possible, all that is available to you.

What is Your Mindset? Scarcity or Abundance?

Most of us want to believe we are positive people, that’s it’s always rainbows and unicorns! But if you are like most people, there are fluctuations. You cycle between the two depending on life’s circumstances.

When you’re living in an abundance mindset, life feels generous. There is a natural flow state. You feel like you are getting your fair share of the pie, and there is enough pie for everyone.

People living in abundance are typically less concerned about time and money. They see possibility at every turn and find gratitude for all they have.

But when you’re stuck in scarcity, life may seem unfair. Everything is a competition...jobs, relationships, money. There is a winner...and there is a loser. And likely you feel like the latter.

Signs you are living in a scarcity mindset:

  • You use “not enough” language (not enough time, not enough money, not enough work, etc).

  • You often feel jealous or envious of those you perceive as having more.

  • You live life within your comfort zone. If there is not enough, it would be risky to try something new.

  • You often suffer from stress, anxiety and worry.

3 Ways to Tune Into Abundance

The saying goes... “money doesn’t buy happiness.” And it’s true...up to a certain point.

You can see evidence of this in every community. Families living in poverty that are full of gratitude and joy. They appreciate all they have and find abundance in love and community, not necessarily in stuff.

And on the flip side you see people with an abundance of resources, yet they are living in lack.

So how do you shift your mindset? How do you move from scarcity to abundance without acquiring one single thing?

  • Pause. Look around. Notice all that you already have. Do you have a roof over your head? Food to eat? Clothes to wear? Friends and family? While they may be the simple things, realize that your basic needs are met and you are more fortunate than many. This allows you to start tuning into what you DO have instead of what you DON’T.

  • Practice Gratitude. This is one you hear all the time, but that’s because it truly works. Studies show that when you live in a gratitude mindset you tend to be more optimistic and content with what you already have.

  • Mantra. Find a simple phrase to redirect the mind. “There is more than enough for everyone”. “ I have all that I need”. “The possibilities are endless”. While it may feel rehearsed at first, be persistent. The power of mantra has the ability to move the mind.

Does this mean you will win the lottery tomorrow? Maybe. But the point is it doesn’t matter. Shift your view and it will change the way you feel about what you already have. The law of attraction tells us that all we need to do is focus on what we want to create more of in our lives. So what will you choose to focus your attention on to create abundance?
